       MEET ED

Ed Hermes is president of Osborn School District's governing board, father to two Osborn students, Penélope and Valentina, community leader, and attorney. Ed is running for re-election to the Osborn school board to continue the work of improving our public schools. Since being elected in 2020, he has worked to increase teacher and staff pay, expand preschool programs, enhance dual-language education, make our schools safe, and has strengthened ties between our public schools and our communities.

Ed has had a long tenure of public service, starting when Gov. Janet Napolitano appointed him to serve on the Arizona Board of Regents. Thereafter, Ed worked as a high school civics and government teacher on the Navajo Nation before attending law school at the ASU Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law.

Ed is currently a partner at the law firm of Snell & Wilmer LLP in Phoenix, Arizona, and also serves as a Judge Pro Tempore with the Maricopa County Superior Court.

Ed has served on his neighborhood association board, the Carnation Association of Neighbors, for the last seven years and was elected President. As a neighborhood leader, Ed has worked on issues of traffic mitigation, building sidewalks, trash pickup, completing the Sonoran Bike Trail, development, and many other City issues. Ed understands that the strength of our our public education lies within the collective wisdom and diverse voices of our community.

In 2020, Ed was elected to the Osborn School District Governing Board, and currently serves as its President. Ed is fighting to make sure that his daughters and all kids in Phoenix have a high quality, well-rounded public education in the Osborn School District. As a parent of bilingual kids, Ed is also fighting to protect and grow Osborn's award-winning Dual Language programs.

In January 2023, the Phoenix City Council appointed Ed to represent Phoenix City Council District 4 on the Vision Zero Street Safety Committee, where he is working to make changes to improve our streets and policies to ensure all of our kids have safe routes to schools.

Ed understands that the challenges our public education system faces are complex – but the opportunities to improve education for all children has never been greater. That's why he's running for re-election to the Osborn School District Governing Board.
